LEADERS of a project that aims to increase dance opportunities in schools will show they are in sync when they perform in Lochgelly on Friday.

The Fife 6, 7, 8 dance project is run by Active Schools Fife, who work closely with local dance companies linking school and community provision, providing training for school staff and volunteers to increase dance opportunities within schools.

The initiative provides a dance festive for schools across the Kingdom to showcase some of the fantastic extra-curricular dance sessions that have been taking place but, for the first time, it will also include a performance from Active Schools dance leaders.

In recent years, Active Schools Fife have invested funding and entered into partnerships with other agencies - Youth Scotland and Y Dance - to deliver dance leadership training courses for young people, who have then gone on to deliver within local schools.

Now dance leaders, both past and present, have come together collectively create a dance by sharing ideas and opinions to generate the movement for the piece, giving them the opportunity to incorporate the different styles they have explored on their leadership courses and to use the skills they have developed.

It comes after a competition took place at Beath High School last month that saw routines performed by pupils from schools including Beath, Lochgelly and Dunfermline High Schools.

The event takes place from 6-8.30pm at Lochgelly Centre from, and 18 local primary and high schools will perform.

Tickets, which cost £4.75 (concessions £3) are available from the Lochgelly Centre box office by calling 01592 583303.
