IT may have taken until the last week of February for substantial snowfall to occur but when it arrived on Thursday morning it posed plenty of problems in the district.

The snow was part of Storm Doris as it hit Central Scotland and it posed people challenges as they headed for work.

The snow began to fall heavily at around 5am and soon road surfaces became very tricky.

Chief Reporter Jim Stark was heading for two calls in Benarty at the back of 8am but when he was heading down Station Road, in Lochgelly, things became gridlocked with a bus skidding.

Assistance came from machinery at Purvis at Cartmore and soon traffic was flowing with care both ways.

He said: "Getting on to Station Road was easy enough but then progress halted.

"I was stuck for over 20 minutes as cars and vans struggled on the snowbound surface.

"To be honest the flow up the slope went surprisingly well but the northbound traffic was stationery for more than 20 minutes."

While the snow fell incessantly for about four hours most roads remained passable with care although there were hold-ups on the A92 while back streets were tricky.

By mid morning the snow had become pretty wet and all roads became a lot easier although pavements remained tricky for quite a while.

With it being a fairly mild winter to date the snowfall caught a lot of people out.
