ORGANISERS of a boxing show in Lochgelly have hailed it as a knock-out success – and are already eyeing a repeat.

A sell-out crowd of 250 people packed into the Town Hall on Friday night for the Glenrothes Boxing Club event that featured Cowden-Gelly boxers Bradley Innes, David Winiarski and home favourite Emma McCulloch.

The show was the first of its kind to be held in Lochgelly for decades and pitted Glenrothes members against boxers from across Scotland, as well as from O'Dell's Gym in Birmingham, in what was billed as a 'Scotland v England' night.

A total of 15 bouts took place and the star attraction was Lochgelly's Emma, who is the Boxing Scotland Novice Championship elite women title belt holder at both 51kg and her regular weight of 45kg.

She took on Nicole Ryan, the Celtic Box Cup champion, and fought over three, three minute rounds – the same format as male fighters – for the first time.

Emma, who has her eye on qualification for next year's Commonwealth Games, delighted the partisan audience by claiming a victory to follow success for both Winiarski and Innes.

Cowdenbeath hot-shot Innes, who retained his Eastern District youth 2000 69kg belt last Sunday, earned a unanimous win over Ayrshire's Bahal Adjamal, while Kelty's Winiarksi earned revenge over Alloa Boxing Club's Anas Nfiaou after losing a senior 75kg bout to him at the Eastern Districts.

Glenrothes coach Stevie McGuire said: "It went really well and we had eight winners out of 10 as well. The crowd was outstanding; it was full to the maximum so you can't go wrong.

"I was a bit surprised with it but I'd have no hesitation in doing a show there again. Maybe we'll do it as an annual thing or maybe two a year, we'll see.

"It was great for west of Fife people and everybody was happy with the show. We had a big help from Tam Harrower, of Diamonds Fitness, Lochgelly, who bid £1,000 for a signed pair of Anthony Joshua's shorts. He does a lot to help the club and sponsors Emma, which we really appreciate.

"Emma won and she's going to the Golden Girl Championship in Sweden. It's a big tournament; there's a lot of ranking points available and the good thing is that it's a tournament just for females. She must be on 11-12 fights not and she's been fighting decent opponents, so this is another big step towards the Commonwealth Games. I'll be pushing her in every way I can.

"David beat his opponent from the final of the Eastern Districts on a split decision, and it was unanimous for Bradley but I thought it was close. They're the judges and when it's going for us, I won't argue!"
