OVER 2,800 new affordable homes are to be built in Fife over the next five years.

The Fife Strategic Housing Investment Plan for 2017-22 will guide the development of new social housing at various towns and villages across the Kingdom.

Lochgelly has capacity for over 900 new homes as does Kelty.

Unanimously approved by the councillors of the Executive Committee, the plans build on the very strong foundation now established where we have delivered 2,700 new homes for rent since 2012.

Cllr Judy Hamilton Executive Spokesperson for Housing and Building Services said: “We have recognised the huge need for new affordable homes in Fife and have made it one of our top priorities to meet this demand.

"We have delivered the largest social housing programme in the UK. This decision ensures that we can deliver at least the same again as our investment in new homes continues. This is very good news for our tenants and for the Council.

"I’m delighted that our Affordable Housing Programme will see approximately three thousand more new affordable homes built over the next five years.

"The 2,700 houses already completed are already making a real impact on tenants across Fife. We’re very proud of the progress we have made and excited about these further developments."
