CONCERN has been expressed at Lochgelly Community Council about delays in developing the old tennis court site at the public park.

A wide range of topics were discussed a wide at their October meeting.

The length of time being taken by the Health service to deal with the increasingly dilapidated health centre in the town was a worry for members.

Meanwhile an update on the improvements within the Public Park was widely welcomed and the addition of a skate park would be an added attraction, it was agreed.

There were, however, concerns about the delays in developing the old tennis courts, which have been earmarked for a ‘sensory’ garden on the top level, and a older children’s play area on the lower level.

This site has been in its current state for many many years and it was hoped that something would happen soon.

The Public Park Improvement Group advised that they are seeking views on a wide range of suggestions on what would help increase the park's usage.

With the ability to develop more activities on the old athletics' circuit they would welcome views from the townspeople on what else can be done.

Community Councillors were informed that £13k had been awarded through the 4Winds Trust to local groups at their previous meeting.

They were provided with an overview of the approved accounts for the year to April 2015 which showed an overspend.

Community Councillors were reminded to signpost community groups to the fund, the process is application driven not on specific communities.

Updates were provided on the projects which the Community Council have been heavily involved in one way or another were provided.

Work on the Rockgelly project is due to commence and the cycle circuit proposals will be discussed at the November planning committee.

These two additional facilities will bring a tremendous boost to the local community, it was agreed. The refurbishment of the old Town House has all but been completed as well as the new houses on the old library site.

Discussions are still ongoing about the old Fabtek buildings nearby.

Both Councillors Linda Erskine and Mark Hood provided extensive updates on the areas of work which they have been involved with over the previous four weeks.

Concerns were expressed about the state of the footpaths under the railway bridge in Station Road caused by bird droppings which it was felt caused a significant danger to the walking public.

Equally of concern was the amount of rubbish being thrown away in the streets about the town. These issues will be picked up with the appropriate council services, it was agreed.

Finally, Community Councillors welcomed the announcement that Lochgelly had been short listed for the most improved town awards.

These awards recognise the improvements which have occurred across the town in terms of both the physical attributes as well as the social improvements.

This short listing shows that Lochgelly is travelling in the right direction, it was agreed.

The next meeting of the Community Council is scheduled for Wednesday November 9 at 6pm in the 385 Social Club.

Members of the public are more than welcome to attend. If you want to discuss any aspect of their work in the community then go along, alternatively you can email the community council at lochgellycommunitycouncil@yahoo.co.uk
