LOCHGELLY Gala Day was warmly praised by the town's MP and MSP this week.

Annabelle Ewing MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Cowdenbeath constituency, attended the Gala last weekend and speaking about the event, she said: “The sun shone for the fantastic parade and it was great to see so many groups participating and very well done to the three year old star of the Cowdenbeath Majorettes who more than kept pace with her older colleagues as we walked down to the park.

“Thanks has to go to Kelty Pipe Band and to Kirkcaldy Pipe Band and to the Lochgelly Brass Band for the music.

“It really was fantastic to see so many folk lining the streets and well done to all the stall holders at the park."

Ms Ewing added: “Many thanks are due to the Gala Committee and I would like to give particular thanks to Eileen McKenna, Ella Ross and Christine McGrath for all their hard work and determination over the years to ensure that the gala actually took place year on year.

“I had a fantastic time at the Lochgelly Gala on the Sunday morning. The parade was excellent, along with the fancy dress competition superb. It was incredibly difficult to choose a winner amongst all the wonderful costumes worn, but the winners really stood out.

“A big congratulation must go out to the Lochgelly Citizen of the Year Derek Johnstone and Young Citizen of the Year Charley Blair, who helped to judge the competition

“Roger Mullin and I had the extremely hard task - alongside Lochgelly’s Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year – of judging it, for all the entrants were great but many congratulations to the winners.”
