THE £1m cycle track facility scheduled for Lochgelly High Street should be open for spring next year.
The plans for the brand new state of the art cycling facility have now been lodged with Fife Council.
Lochgelly and Cardenden councillor Mark Hood has been a strong supporter of the project and this week confirmed that if planning permission is given over the next few weeks the facility will be up and running by next April/May.
He said: "There has been a great deal of work done to get us to the point where we submitted the final planning application.
"The project has been in development for over three years and we have consulted cycling experts from across Europe to ensure the facility is the best it can be. We are now confident we have designed a great facility that will be the best of its kind in the UK. We have also sourced the £1.7m required to fund the project."
The Executive Committee member and chair of Cowdenbeath Area Committee added: "If we are successful in gaining planning approval we expect to be appointing contractors in October with work starting soon after.
"By spring next year we hope to have the facility open hosting events and running cycling lessons for people of all ages.
"As well as being a great facility for local people it will also attract visitors from across the UK to the area making a significant contribution to the local economy."
