A LOCHGELLY soprano is teaming up with her mum for a homecoming concert of classical music.

Alison Gormley, 27, is keeping it in the family for 'An Evening of Song' which will be at the town's St Serf's Church on Friday August 12.

The talented singer, who has just completed a masters degree in vocal performance in Birmingham, will be accompanied by mum Susan, who teaches piano and keyboards at Lochgelly and Glenrothes high schools.

Alison said: "It means a lot to be performing back home where I have a lot of support from the local people.

"They have shown so much interest in my progress and it is nice to come back and perform to them.

"I also love the space in St Serf's Church, which has great acoustics for music."

A former pupil of St Patrick's Primary School in Lochgelly and St Columba's High School in Dunfermline, Alison completed a degree in music at the University of Aberdeen.

She has completed a masters degree at the Birmingham Conservatoire and is set to graduate with distinction.

During her time in the Midlands, Alison said she was lucky enough to work with distinguished artists such as baritone Roderick Williams and pianist, Iain Burnside, esteemed tenor Andrew King and conductors Stephen Barlow and Paul Wingfield.

This year, she has performed the role of Le Feu (Fire) in the conservatoire’s production of Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, and created the role of Thin in the world premiere of Blanka Stachelek’s contemporary opera Out at Sea.

Having learned from Rosemary Nairne in Kirkcaldy, Alison is currently studying with accomplished soprano, Anne Dawson.

She will return to Birmingham Conservatoire to undertake a personal study programme in September, to further hone her skills while promoting herself in the professional music world.

The musical gift obviously runs in the family as mum Susan is a much sought after accompanist in Fife, and regularly performs with various groups, including the Ensemble vocal group and Fife Opera.

‘An Evening of Song’ starts at 7.30pm on Friday August 12. Tickets cost £8 and £6 for concessions.

They will be available to buy on the door or you can reserve a ticket by emailing alisongormley@fsmail.net.
