SATURDAY is a day the people of Lochgelly should be at the town hall.

For it is the day that Lochgelly Going Forward reaches a very important stage and moves into full action.

On Saturday an Open Day is being held at Lochgelly Town Hall, from 11am to 2.30pm, with Fife’s Provost, Jim Leishman, himself a Lochgelly man, opening the event.

This is a project set up by local residents, supported by Fife Council Community Learning and Development Service.

The aim has been gathering information from local people and establishing a Community Action Plan based on local priorities.

Members of the steering group have been out on the streets getting information out to people and the result has been several very good projects looking for votes this Saturday.

And there are more than seven projects already ready for people to vote on at the town hall on Saturday and there could be more by Saturday.

It is very similar to the Futures Initiatives run by The Coalfields Regeneration Trust in Cardenden, Benarty, Kelty, Crossgates and Kinglassie and which have been warmly welcomed by communities and seen a lot of good changes taking place in these communities.

May King has been involved in the promotion of Lochgelly Going Forward as one of the steering group, and she and her colleagues have been delighted with the quality of the projects which will be voted on this Saturday.

She pointed out that Fife Council has allocated a budget of £28,000 that will be used to fund local projects in line with the priorities nominated by the people of the town.

She said: “There have been some very good ideas put forward and we hope that the people of Lochgelly come out and vote for the projects that they think can make a difference to the town. We are hoping for a really big turn out at the Open Day where people will have the opportunity to choose the priorities for the Action Plan and also vote for the projects to be funded. from the pot.

“Funds from the £28,000 pot can be allocated to the most popular projects to allow them to happen.

“We want as many people there as possible to vote on what projects should get the backing.”

The steering group has been busy over the past few months going around the town and giving people information about Lochgelly Going Forward.

The doors open at 11am on Saturday, at the Town Hall, and music will be provided by Lochgelly Public Brass Band and there will be free refreshments and stalls and activities.
