AS preparations are being finalised for the big Christmas Lights switch-on in Lochgelly on Wednesday week (November 25), the town's Development Forum have made a significant donation to ensure that the Old Folks Re-union Christmas meal will go ahead.

The Forum became aware that the Reunion Funding Committee were having difficulty in raising enough money for the over seventies festive meal.

Said the Forum secretary Christine McGrath: "We arranged a meeting with the manageress of the Community Shop, Marie Ross, who agreed that there was sufficient money in the funds this year to give a £500 donation to the Reunion Committee."

The Reunion Committee's Alex Sharp received the cheque from Marie and warmly thanked the Development Forum for the support which has come at a very opportune moment for the mid-December Christmas meal.

Meanwhile it is full steam ahead for the Development Forum on preparation for next Wednesday's big switch-on.

The event will take place at the Community Square beside the miners' statue.

things will get underway at 5.45pm with a carol service.

Music will come from Lochgelly High School Pipe Band and ensemble before the switch-on at 6pm by Citizens of the Year Elaine Stark and Lou Davidson.

Free flashing wads will be distributed to all primary school children that attend the switch-on before the parade will head down to the Town Hall to meet Mr and Mrs Claus who will have a few surprises in store for the youngsters.

Refreshments will be served at the Town Hall and there will be a host of stalls so people including cake and toys stalls plus there will be a raffle and much more.

Added Christine: "We want as big a turn out of people of all ages from the town to welcome the festive season getting underway in Lochgelly."
