MEMBERS of Kelty Community Council on Thursday raised their concerns about the procedure for people to obtain food bank vouchers.

It was stated that advice on Fife Council’s website is stated, “Customers in crisis may be referred to a food bank by Fife Council’s Welfare Fund team, by their Social Worker or by Citizens Advice & Rights Fife. Some GPs and health visitors can also refer you.” It was pointed out during the meeting that the problem being experienced in Kelty is that there was no branch of CARF in the village, the Fife Council Local Office is only open two days a week, and the GP’s surgery does not issue the vouchers.

KCC chair, Fred Clarke, asked the local councillors present if they could help.

Councillor Alex Campbell said that he would try to set up a meeting with John Drylie, from the Dunfermline based Food Bank organisation which has helped establish the Benarty and Cowdenbeath facilities, to see if they could reach a resolution to the problem.
