LOCHS councillor, Alex Campbell has this week set out plans that will see an update of Kelty Public Park and he wants local people to get involved in working for more facilities for the village park.

He feels that the park is a key recreation element in Kelty and that it can be made so much better.

Councillor Campbell is due to meet with transportation officials to explore the options for a new foot and cycle path that will connect the Great North Road housing estate to Bath Street.

He told the Times, “As part of the section 75 agreement for the new housing there is a condition that a path and cycle way be put through the public park. “I want to make sure that the new connection between the housing estate has street lights installed and is situated in the park to bring maximum benefit, whilst leaving enough space for two football pitches”.

He continued, “I also want to explore the opportunities for new play equipment as I do not believe the current provision is good enough for our public park. “The lesson from the investment that was made in the Elmwood Park, at the top of Kelty, was that children in their hundreds will take park in activity and that is why I am now stating that the money allocated to the ward for local improvements should be used to attract further funding that will give the public park a facelift and a new state of the art play area.

“The new 4G all weather pitch will be laid at Central Park after Kelty Hearts complete their season and the club have been making big improvements to their facilities.

“We should therefore be taking the opportunity with the new path and cycleway going in to achieve greater improvements to the facilities”.

Councillor Campbell said he would be writing to all local groups in the village with the aim of bringing them together to work out what should be the priorities for moving forward to enhance community provision.
