THREE miners who worked on restoring the landscape near Kelty hung up their hardhats and overalls for the last time as they begin their well-earned retirement.
With over 85 years of combined experience in the industry, Matthew Hershaw (65), from Cowdenbeath; John Gray (65), from Cardenden; and Ronnie Amos (64) from Glenrothes; have been part of the Hargreaves Surface Mining Ltd (HSML) team delivering the restoration of St Ninian’s.
The three plant operators were presented with a traditional miners lamp to mark their retirement by St Ninian’s site manager Adrian Kirk.
Mr Kirk said, “On behalf of everyone at Hargreaves we’d like to wish Matthew, John and Ronnie all the best in their retirement and wish to thank them for all their efforts at St Ninian’s.
“They have given considerable years to the coal industry and we hope their miner’s lamps will provide a good reminder of their distinguished careers.”
