The community centre management committee wants people to get involved with coming up with a name for the new centre, and are encouraging Kelty residents to make their voices heard.

“The idea is to give the new building a name of some kind, but there needs to be a public consultation,” said Janet Young, chair of the management committee.

“I don’t know of any definitive suggestions just yet. The options are to give the building itself a name or also name the individual rooms after local dignitaries, but it’s up to the public.

“Cowdenbeath have done a similar thing with their new community centre, with a consultation on naming it the Maxwell Centre, and we want to hear whatever suggestions people come up with.

“There are local councillors who have done a lot for Kelty that have now passed away, such as former Provost Bob Mill, and these names might be put forward.” Janet believes that having a say in the name of the new centre is a good way to get the community involved and invested in the new building.

“It’s our first chance to have such a building,” she said. “It’s a dream for the village to have a brand new community centre. It’s a good thing and I hope that people will attend and spend lots of time there.

“We’ve very much looking for people to get involved and have their say, so that others can have their say and not just us. But you can’t please everyone!

“Hopefully it will be named after someone worthwhile. There are many local people in the village that have done a lot of good, so let’s hope that someone comes up with something good!” To have your say on the name of the new Kelty community centre, place your suggestion in the box in the Moray Institute or submit it on the community council website at www.kelty.org.uk
