THORNTON Greyhound Stadium held a sponsored race meeting in aid of Gordon Cottage Child Development Centre in Kelty and raised the amazing sum of £1165.
The amount was due to the efforts of a Thornton regular, Shandy, whose grandson Logan attended the Cottage and who is also a regular attendee at the track race meetings with his grandad. Logan and the other children at the Centre took part in a sponsored assault course challenge and a teddy bear hunt to assist with funds. As word spread about his fund raising efforts it was decided to hold a race meeting to help with the fundraising and in no time there were 10 race sponsors, donations of prizes for a raffle, and a signed Rangers football to be auctioned. The race meeting was a huge success with a large crowd entertained by good racing and four race finals, which certainly kept the crowd guessing as to the winners.
Staff at Gordon Cottage were delighted when presented with the cheque and plan to use the money to buy new toys and equipment for the Centre. Our picture shows Logan and youngsters from Gordon Cottage with the cheque.
