THE ‘Yes’ Kelty group have organised a Referendum Debate which they hope will be a major factor in helping undecided voters to make an informed decision in the coming Referendum.

The debate, which will be held in Kelty Church on Thursday September 4th at 7:30pm, is seen by the Yes Kelty Group as the last major opportunity for Kelty people to get the information they require to vote in the Referendum on September 18th.

The debate will have two speakers from the ‘Yes’ Campaign, Natalie McGarry, Women for Independence, and Allan Grogan, Founder Member of Labour for Independence.

Speaking for the ‘No’ Campaign will be Alex Rowley, Labour MSP for Cowdenbeath; and David Dempsey, Conservative Councillor for Inverkeithing, Dalgety Bay and Aberdour, and the meeting will be chaired by the Rev. Hugh Steele.

‘Yes’ Kelty member, Jock Penman said, “We have tried everything we could to get information out to people including public meetings with Tommy Sheridan, Louise Batchelor from the Green Party, Robin McAlpine from The Common Weal and Ivan McKee from Businesses for Scotland; we have stalls on a Friday and Saturday and the Yescafe, which is also on a Saturday.

“However, we reckoned a debate should be the best opportunity for people to test both sides of the argument and hopefully clear up some myths, misapprehensions and fears. We would also expect that ‘undecideds’ in particular will take this opportunity to find the information, and maybe the inspiration, they are looking for, so it should be a well-attended and most entertaining evening as well. We are really looking forward to it.” He went on, “There are issues which need to be addressed, such as Defence, the Economy and Pensions as I have heard some very misleading and contradictory statements (in my opinion) from the No Campaign. No doubt they would say the same, so this meeting gives us all a chance to separate the truth from the spin. Whatever happens, we would ask people to be courteous to all the speakers as we want a robust but disciplined debate.” He concluded, “Everyone is invited so there is no need to apply for tickets or to be vetted or any other such nonsense. Also register vote if you have not already. “
