THE Yes Kelty group are trying something new to try and get people to talk about the coming Referendum - a Yescafé.

Group member, Jock Penman explained, “We have had some really good, informative meetings with Tommy Sheridan, Robin McAlpine from the Common Weal project; Ivan McKee from Business for Scotland; and others, but we have only scratched the surface so far; maybe people just don't want to come to public meetings.

"There are still a lot of people who are unaware of the issues and real arguments for voting for Independence, or maybe they have been confused by TV pundits.

"There are even some people who tell us they are voting No but can't, or won't, tell anyone why. That is their right, of course and we certainly don't want to badger them, but once the votes are counted and their children or grandchildren ask them at a future date how they voted, I wonder if they will have the courage to tell them that they refused to even discuss it."

He went on, "We have organised a Yescafé in the Clippies Fayre every second Saturday from 10.30am till 12.30pm, the next one being 9th August, and people can have a free coffee and scone. We want to try and make them feel comfortable enough to talk to us, challenge us by all means, and just have a wee cosy chat about how they see Scotland's future, either in an Independent Scotland or ruled by Westminster.

"It's really up to them to take the chance to have some doubts dispersed or confirmed, and who is going to turn down the chance of a free coffee and scone?"

Another group member, Isaac Gilmour, added, "If people don't want to come along on their own they should bring a friend, or a group of friends, and chat amongst themselves if they like.

"As long as people are talking about it and getting real information then that's what is important. That's what helps people to get over the fear-factor and look at the facts without prejudice.” He also announced that their next public meeting would be on Wednesday 6th August at 7:00pm in the Moray Institute. The speakers will be the Green Party's Louise Batchelor, former BBC Scotland News presenter and Environment Reporter, Morgwn Davies from NHS for Independence, and Dr.Bill Paterson, Lecturer in International Politics at Stirling University, who will be talking about Defence and Trident.
