TOMMY Sheridan, Solidarity Leader and firebrand former-MSP, is on the campaign trail again. He will address a public meeting in The Moray Institute, Kelty on Monday 21st April to explain the kind of Scotland he would like to see if people vote for an Independent Scotland in September. He is also likely to criticise the current Westminster Government.

The YESKelty group has been running on a social media page for a few months through local man Kevin Lynch, assisted by veteran campaigner Jock Penman. However, the group itself has only been going for a few weeks.

Mr Lynch explained, “We were quite surprised by the success of the internet campaign, with almost 500 followers, but it’s no use people sitting in front of their computers heartily agreeing with each other. “We had to get out and talk to people, particularly those who had not yet made up their minds.

“People in Kelty will see us on the streets with stalls and leaflets, and we hope they will come up and have a chat. I’m delighted that a national figure like Tommy is coming to speak in Kelty and I believe we will be telling our children and grand-children about the night Tommy Sheridan spoke in Kelty.” Mr Sheridan told the Times that he is delighted to be coming to Kelty, saying, “I am always happy to come to Fife as it has such a strong radical history, particularly the miners and Methil dock-workers.

“Happy Lands is one of the most inspirational films I have ever seen. I loved it. Politicians and political pundits tell us that the public have turned their backs on politics.

“Well I spoke to a meeting of over 300 in Kirkcaldy a couple of months ago and the video of it has had over 107,000 hits on the internet. I also spoke to a large meeting in Methil and on the 21st I will be speaking in Kelty, something I have wanted to do for a long time.

“There is no doubt in my mind that people are interested when the right issue comes up, and the forthcoming referendum is the most important issue for Scotland for 300 years.” Jock Penman said, “YESKelty is a grass-roots community group, which isn’t run by any political party; everyone is welcome. We intend to invite speakers who can answer the questions people in our community are asking - some political - some not, and we also hope to build communications with Yes groups across Fife.

“We are also hopeful of getting a debate with a local leading spokesperson for the ‘No Campaign’ so watch this space.”
