COWDENBEATH Area Committee is backing the street art project which will look to transform Kelty's Main Street in the coming months.

At yesterday's meeting councillors agreed to a funding request for £18,751 from K-Art.

Community manager, Kevin Sayer, reported: "K-Art proposes to regenerate Kelty through arts projects bringing colour and vitality to the town and complementing their initial project in Blackhall Square.

"The work will include professional artists working alongside community groups and volunteers."

K-Art made a presentation to the committee in February at which they outlined their plans for Main Street.

They have contacted the business community about their plans to paint shop shutters and they have received strong support from shopkeepers.

Councillor Alex Campbell said: "The shutter art work in Blackhall Square made such a difference and I am sure it will have a marked effect on the Main Street corridor."
