THE continued high speed of some motorists in Kelty has prompted Councillor Alex Campbell to ask for a review of the effectiveness of the speed measures used by Fife Council to slow traffic in the village.

And he has renewed his call for a 20mph speed restriction to be put in place on Kelty Main Street.

The Labour councillor made a submission over a year ago for the Main Street to have the speed restrictions put in place and whilst the council say they are working towards this he wants to see the new speed restriction introduced as soon as possible.

He said this week: “We have seen a number of accidents over the last month on Main Street and whilst the investigations into these continue, I know that I receive regular complaints about speeding on parts of the Main Street and I want to see action now”.

Cllr Campbell is also raising questions about the effectiveness of the speed measures Fife Council use and added: “The Council continue to use small speed bumps that don’t seem to be very useful in slowing traffic and I do wonder why they are less willing to use speed stripes across roads which seem to be far more effective in slowing traffic down.

"I am asking questions about this as is so many people, who see cars speed through the so called speed humps as if they were not there.

"We need a review of the effectiveness of the council approach to slowing traffic and this is what I am asking for”.
