KELTY is to have a taxi rank despite one resident's plea that it would cause her problems.

Members of Cowdenbeath Area Committee on Wednesday approved a request to implement a taxi rank in the village's Main Street.

This process received one public objection, however, councillors heard drivers have been using the area on a regular basis without any concerns being raised.

The Corrie Centre meeting heard from the Roads and Transportation's Phil Clarke that the plans for the taxi rank on Main Street near The Cross, had been advertised through a Traffic Regulation Order and had attracted one objection.

Said Mr Clarke: "The objector feels that a taxi rank could result in mess and noise outside her home. It was also said that taxi ranks should not be placed 'where people live'.

"A response was sent to the objector explaining the rationale for the taxi rank and its proposed location.

"Reassurances were provided that no anti-social impact is expected as drivers operate under a code of conduct and are already using the area on a regular basis, without any concerns being raised."

He recommended approval of the taxi rank proposal: "In the interests of maintaining a suitable taxi provision for the community."

Councillor Alex Campbell felt that the proposal was a good one and members were happy to agree to it being formed.
