HEROES don't always wear capes, most of them are just everyday people who, when crisis hits, step up and take on the challenge with both hands.

When the Beast From The East hit, Fife’s Snow Heroes stepped up and took on the challenge. They went above and beyond to help keep vital services running and get the Kingdom moving again.

That's why Fife's Provost Jim Leishman wanted to thank all those who helped tame the Beast and there were many in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area including Cardenden farmer Zander Hughes who brought Cluny back into the land of the living and also cleared the road to Mossview Residential Home, with the help of a team of local people.

The council got together with Kingdom FM to given Fifers the chance to thank their snow heroes and give them the chance to win £250.

And the lucky winner is Brian Ireland from Kelty who was nominated over 40 times for the work he did to clear the snow and help others in and around Kelty.

Councillor Leishman commented: "It’s clear that community spirit is very much alive and well in Fife.

"We wanted to acknowledge the heroic efforts which individuals and teams made – often going well above and beyond what could have been expected of them. Congratulations to Brian - his efforts were truly inspiring."
