A KELTY woman who staged a heist to steal her father's £48,700 life savings and fund a lavish spending spree was found guilty by a jury on Friday.

Lisa Reid and her partner Mark Green, of Croftangry Road, blew the cash in just nine weeks on a holiday, three cars, plastic surgery and items including a computer, vacuum cleaner and eight pairs of Ugg boots.

During the trial, Perth Sheriff Court heard that the couple waited until Derek Reid was away on holiday before breaking into his home and stealing the safe they knew he kept the family's savings in.

By the time the police raided Reid and Green's home two months later they found it crammed full of gifts and more than £22,000 had been spent.

The jury had heard how the couple had bought three cars in a few days and had paid for them with the used £20 notes Mr Reid had saved up for years.

Detectives also found around 3,000 Euros that they had converted to pay for them to go to Belgium where Reid admitted she was planning to have a "boob job."

The Kelty property was littered with receipts and still-wrapped items including eight pairs of Ugg boots.

Reid and Green denied being involved in the robbery but the court was shown CCTV footage from several different places which contradicted their evidence about their whereabouts.

Reid told officers that, despite not working, she was able to save up her benefits to pay for the items and a cosmetic surgery holiday in Belgium.

In a joint minute read out to the jury, a massive list of items recovered from the couple's home was detailed.

Fiscal depute Nicola Gillespie said they were valued, with the cars, at around £22,000 and had been bought between the break-in and the raid on their home two months later.

Detective Constable Kelly Webster told the jury: "There were boxes and boxes of shoes, brand new in the box."

Reid had replied: "I know I've got a lot of shoes." She told the officer: "Financially, I'm totally fine."

The duo spent £1,830 in cash on beds the day after taking the suitcase-style safe and there was so much new gear in their spare room that police had to order a large van to take it all away.

Derek Reid previously told the court he was certain his daughter Lisa and her boyfriend were behind the theft of the family's life savings.

He told a court that his family were like the characters from the 1980s TV show Bread and that they all kept their money in a safe in his home.

The court was told that £48,700 in £20 notes was bundled up and stored in a spare bedroom at the family home in Montrose.

"If you watched that programme from many years ago – Bread – that is like the way we worked," he said.

"Most of my bairns can't keep money, they just squander it. I've got a big, bought house – I didn't need it."

He denied paying for Lisa to have cosmetic surgery, a holiday in Belgium, or to buy a computer, a Dyson vacuum cleaner, a bed and mattress or cash in Euros.

The jury was told that he was on holiday in the Isle of Wight on September 10, 2016 when he got a call to say that the safe had been taken along with its contents.

Reid, 29, and Green, 35, were found guilty of breaking in on that day, stealing a safe and forcing it open to steal the £48,700 contents.

Sheriff Gillian Wade deferred sentence for reports and Green was remanded in custody, while mother-of-one Reid had bail continued.
