STONES flying up and striking house windows, drivers seeing their cars suffering damage to their suspension, and pedestrians having to watch they do not fall while crossing the road.

That is the unhappy mix which users of Keltyhill Road, Kelty, are experiencing and they have had enough.

But Fife Council hope to answer their calls for improvements within a matter of weeks.

Local councillor Alex Campbell, is one of the drivers who has suffered having to negotiate the stricken surface of this busy bus route, in Kelty, and he joined with the host of motorists who have contacted him in person, by email and on the phone, about what has been described as ‘the road from hell’.

Our reporter looked at the road on Friday and found a stretch of 600 yards from the junction with Main Street pitted with more than 25 pretty deep potholes.

Councillor Campbell said this week: “I have been deluged with complaints about what is one of the busiest roads in Kelty.

“There are some of the potholes inches deep and the thing is that drivers are having to spend so much time concentrating avoiding the potholes they hardly have time to watch out for pedestrians or other road users and many have cars that have suffered damage on the road.

“Also people crossing the road have to be careful they do not trip on the holes!”

On of the residents, who has complained to the Fife Council roads department about the condition of Keltyhill Road, said: “It really has become dangerous for the holes are very deep and with some of these breaking up we have found small stones getting thrown up by cars and hitting some of the windows. Something needs to be done now not weeks or months in the future.”

Ian Jones, Lead Professional, Roads Network Management (South Fife), said: “There is a full resurfacing rescheduled for Keltyhill Road in March.

“However, we’re aware that there are a number of potholes on the road and plan to make these safe in the next week - weather permitting - ahead of that resurfacing work.”
