A KELTY man was caught twice by police producing cannabis in his home.

Brian Goodwin, 35, of Netherton Gardens, previously admitted that on October 5, 2016, and January 11, 2017, at his home address, he did produce a controlled drug, namely cannabis.

Also, being an accused person charged with producing a controlled drug, he did on August 31, without reasonable excuse, fail to appear at as diet at the Sheriff Court in Dunfermline.

Goodwin appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday from custody after spending 28 days in jail.

Defence solicitor, Elaine Buist, said her client was struggling to understand the finer points of what he has been charged with.

Although Goodwin has been convicted for the production of cannabis, but said it was simply for his own use.

"I think he struggles to see the difference," Ms Buist said.

In response, Sheriff Charles Macnair, said: "It's entirely irrelevant if it's for his own use or not.

"I would have thought if someone was charged producing cannabis once, they would not go home and do it again."

Ms Buist said: "He has now spent 28 days in custody and I am hopeful that this would have given him the opportunity to realise that."

Goodwin was placed on a community payback order with 12 months supervision.
