THERE are plans to create a taxi rank in Kelty for the first time.

Cowdenbeath Area Committee heard, on Wednesday, that traditionally a taxi operator's office situated on Main Street was informally acting as a place where people could go to request a taxi.

However, this was due to close in 2018 which councillors were told, in a report from Technician Engineer, Scott Blyth, would leave no identifiable location to go for a taxi in the village.

His report added: "To ensure that a clear location to access taxi services remains in Kelty a small taxi rank is proposed for Main Street.

"The location of this was selected, in conjunction with the local taxi operator, and is located opposite the former Royal Bank of Scotland building.

"This location was selected as it is close to the local shops, but should have little impact on customer parking."

He did point out that a new taxi rank required a Traffic Regulation Order to ensure the rank can be effectively enforced.

This would involve publishing an official notice in the local press and on-street detailing the intention and allowing 28 days for public objection.

The local council members had been advised and had no objections and Police Scotland had been advised.

The Area Committee agreed with the recommendation to create the taxi rank in Kelty and to promote a TRO to progress the plan.
