A KELTY man who broke into a dental practice on New Year’s Eve has been jailed for 13 months.

Ross Cunningham, 26, of Seafar Drive, appeared from custody for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Sheriff Craig McSherry told him: "The last time you were in front of me, I told you that you would be receiving a lengthy prison sentence if I saw you again."

Cunningham previously pleaded guilty to, whilst acting with others, breaking into Kelty Dental Practice, Main Street, on December 31, 2016 and stealing a safe containing money.

He also admitted that on July 9 at an address in Seafar Drive, he behaved in a threatening manner likely to cause fear or alarm by shouting and swearing at police officers and struggling violently with them and assaulting a male constable in the execution of his duty by biting him.

He also admitted that having been granted bail on May 11 at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, and being subject to the condition that he would appear at the time and place appointed, he failed to appear at a trial diet on October 12 without reasonable excuse.

Cunningham had been remanded in custody since he was arrested on warrant on October 23.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett told the court that the break-in at the dental practice was not done for gain but for nuisance purposes.

Cunningham's previous partner had worked at the dental practice.

Sheriff McSherry said: "There may have been no loss but there was damage.

"The dental practice also became a crime scene and the occupants would have not been able to use the property."
