ROAD maintenance improvements are scheduled to take place on the M90 between Kinross and Hilton (Milnathort) starting today which will have an effect on traffic flow.
Following on from the previous phases of carriageway improvements recently completed on Junctions 5 to 6 of the M90, a new £360,000 investment will see the next phase of works carried out over a 800m stretch of the northbound concrete carriageway on the route.
Starting from Thursday maintenance works on the M90 northbound carriageway between Junction 6, Kinross, and Junction 7, Hilton will be carried out over ten days to repair and improve the concrete carriageway.
The M90 at this section is used by almost 30,000 vehicles a day and the improvements will considerably enhance the safety of the road at this location. The works will involve road surface repairs and improvements to the carriageway.
During the improvements traffic management will be in place for the safety of the workforce and for motorists.
A contraflow system on the main M90 will be in operation continuously throughout the works to allow for the carriageway repairs to take place. In addition to the contraflow a slip road closure of Junction 6 northbound on–slip will be in place with a signed diversion M90 Southbound to Junction 5 then back on the M90 Northbound.
A 50mph speed limit will also be in place for safety until the works are completed.
Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This £360,000 investment from Transport Scotland will allow us to carry out maintenance works to ensure our network continues to operate at the highest standard and forms part of the strategy to improve this section of road.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, and we encourage motorists to plan their journey in advance and check the Traffic Scotland website before setting out.”
The works will be carried out by BEAR Scotland and have been planned in consultation with Police Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council and Transport Scotland.
