MID Scotland & Fife MSP Alex Rowley joined with campaigners outside the Scottish Parliament calling for a ban on fracking before the key vote in the Parliament.

Mr Rowley met with campaigners from Scotland Against Fracking, the Broad Alliance, WWF Scotland and Friends of the Earth Scotland before voting for a Government motion amended by the Scottish Labour Party that effectively bans fracking from taking place in Scotland.

The Kelty based MSP said: “This is a victory for communities across all of Mid Scotland & Fife who were at risk of being effected by potential fracking.

“Thanks to the Scottish Labour Party amendment in Parliament, the ban on fracking cannot be overturned without a full Parliamentary vote. This will help give peace of mind to the dedicated campaigners who have called for this for a long time.

“It is thanks to the dedication of hard working individuals in communities across Scotland that have stood up against fracking that the ban has been put through.

"This is a victory for community activists protecting their environments across Mid Scotland & Fife.”
