A KELTY man who broke into a dental practice and stole a safe has appeared in court.

Ross Cunningham, 26, of Seafar Drive, also bit a police officer during a separate incident and has been warned he faces a “significant” jail sentence.

Cunningham appeared from custody having failed to turn up for sentencing previously.

He admitted that on December 31 last year whilst acting with others, he broke into the commercial premises occupied by Kelty Dental Practice, Main Street, Kelty and stole a safe containing money.

He also admitted that on July 9 at Seafar Drive, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing at police officers and struggling violently with them.

He admitted assaulting a police constable by biting him to his injury.

He further admitted failing to appear for a previous court hearing on October 12.

Sheriff Craig McSherry called for reports and Cunningham was remanded in custody. He will be sentenced on November 15.

The sheriff told him: “If you’re in front of me you’ll be facing a significant custodial sentence.”
