A KELTY woman threw a mug at her former partner's car causing the windscreen to smash.

However, Maureen Humphrey said in her defence that the mug did smash the rear windscreen, but her son was sitting in the front of the car and she was not aware she caused any injury to him.

The 53-year-old, of Keltyhill Road, previously admitted that on June 17, at the same address, she did without reasonable excuse, wilfully or recklessly destroy or damage the property belonging to another and did throw a cup at the rear windscreen of a motor car causing it and the cup to smash whereby glass was sprayed over her son.

Humphrey appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Depute fiscal, Carrie Stevens, explained that the two parties had been in a relationship for 20 years but separated four years ago.

"The former partner drove to the accused's home address at around 6.30pm and parked outside her house,” she said.

"An argument began between the couple and the accused became aggressive. She threw a coffee mug that hit the car but didn't smash.

"Her former partner got back in to his vehicle with their 16-year-old son but the accused picked up the mug again and threw it causing the windscreen to smash off the car and shatter.

"Some of the glass fell inside of the car and the value of the damage was £50."

Defence solicitor, Elaine Buist, added that the complainer stopped the vehicle and shouted abuse at Ms Humphrey.

"In the run up to the incident Ms Humphrey felt that her former partner was being very aggressive towards her. She accepts that she threw the mug and it smashed the vehicle, but she was not aware that she caused any injury to her son.

"She has no previous convictions and relations between the parties still remain strained."

Sheriff Craig McSherry deferred sentence for three months for good behaviour until January 10, when she will be required to bring £50 to pay for damage to the vehicle.
