A LORRY driver has been fined £500 for spitting in the face of his former partner.

Andrew Adams had been in a relationship with the victim for five years but that ended this year.

The incident was then subsequently reported to the police at a later date.

Depute-fiscal, Carrie Stevens, explained to Dunfermline Sheriff Court that on the day in question, Adams had been drinking when an argument began between the couple, which ended with him spitting in his former partner's face.

Adams, 39, of Hilton Farm Cottage, Kelty, previously admitted that on an occasion between February 1 and April 31, 2016, at an address in Crosshill, he did assault his former partner and did spit on her face.

Defence solicitor, Sarah Meehan, said Adams has two children with his former partner and following on from this incident the relationship continued.

"The relationship ended in May and there has been no further contact between the two.

"This incident did involve the consumption of alcohol. He had drunk to excess which caused the two to argue.

"He has said himself that his behaviour was disgusting. This appears to be completely out of character for him."

Sheriff Craig McSherry said: "I would say this offence is worthy of a custodial sentence, but I am persuaded that this was out of character and it is also something of vintage dating back to February 2016."
