WITH Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale last night quitting, the smart money on her replacement will be on Kelty's Alex Rowley.

The deputy leader was a popular choice for that role two years ago and with Ms Dugdale stepping down, he must be amongst the favourites for the top job.

Ms Dugdale said of her decision, that with four years to go until the next Scottish Parliamentary elections it was the ideal time for someone new to take over with the better base now existing for the party in Scotland having done much better than expected at the June General Election with seven MPs elected.

Alex Rowley has been a prominent figure in the various jousts Labour has had with the SNP Government since the 2016 elections and the MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife is certain to be amongst the front runners in a process which will start over the next few weeks.
