THE children of Kelty's St Joseph's Primary School were over the moon with their success at the village gala.

Their specially designed float, looking at the mining history of Kelty, won the 'best float prize' and it was a just reward for a lot of hard work.

The Primary 4/5 class were given the task of designing and building the float and they worked very hard over the last term to complete the task.

They were asked by the village Community Council to consider mining as a theme and the children decided that they would celebrate the mining heritage of Kelty through a Minecraft theme.

Said P4/5 teacher, Vanessa Anderson: "Minecraft is so recogniseable to the children that it seemed like a great idea.

"We visited Kelty Primary school at beginning and end of the project to share our ideas.

"They used their problem solving, creativity, communication and team work skills throughout the project.

"The float looked amazing on the day and the children were delighted that their hard work was rewarded when they were judged the best float."

The trophy was on show in the school all last week for all to see.

Added Vanessa: "We have not previously had a gala float but we hope to continue the tradition in the future.

"The Parent Council proposed the idea and the staff at the school were happy to get involved. We were also delighted that so many of the parents joined in with the theme and children walking in the parade with St Joseph's dressed up too!"
