KELTY Main Street should have a have a set speed limit of 20mph.

Councillor Alex Campbell is asking Fife Council's Roads Department to consider his case for the request.

He said this week: "During the election campaign the speed of traffic on Kelty Main Street was something which constantly was raised.

"Clearly the street has never been busier and now that we have the new community centre there along with Kelty Primary there really needs to strong considerations of safety issues."

Mr Campbell said he had done his own ad hoc survey of the speeds of some vehicles on the stretch between The Cross and Black Road and he said it was quite alarming how many vehicles, of all shapes and sizes, were too ready to head along the Main Street in excess of 30mph.

Added the councillor, who was re-elected at the beginning of May: "It also has to be remembered that we have a very busy shopping area on Main Street with lots of people using the various businesses there.
