THE family of a soon-to-be Kelty Primary pupil have given her and her future schoolmates a boost in honour of her grandfather.

Little Gracie Lyle, who will start in P1 at the school after the summer holidays, will see some good come from the sadness of losing a grandparent after a collection at his funeral was handed on to staff.

A total of £1,400 was raised at the service and, with in accordance with her grandfather's wishes, a cheque was presented to the school on the final day of term before the Easter break.

Colin Lyle, depute headteacher at Kelty Primary, said: "The wee girl is starting in P1 with us in August and I believe that her grandad wanted something that would contribute to where she is going for her education. "We're delighted; we know what times are like financially just now so this money is a fantastic gesture. It's a poignant little story; her grandad is not able to see her start school but is having a positive influence, not just for her, but for other pupils as well.

"The leadership team will meet about what the best way to spend the money will be, but we'll ensure that our early years benefits. It is a significant amount and will make a massive difference to several pupils."
