2016 year has been another year of success for the Credit Union at Kelty with numbers of savers and members growing and this week regional MSP Alex Rowley went along to say thank you to all the volunteers who give up their time to run the sessions throughout the year.

He said; “The great thing about this credit union on the door step is they make it so much easier to save and borrow, providing a really good service.

"The other key point is that you are able to borrow at very low interest rates so none of the rip-off rates charged by some lenders.

"Without the volunteers who come here every week, there would not be a credit union in Kelty so we own them a big thank-you”.

In recognition of the strength of the movement in Scotland and the role credit unions play in offering easy savings, affordable credit and a wide range of financial services to people in communities up and down the country, the Scottish Government, politicians and a range of employers and organisations have been keen to support the development and growth of credit unions.

Mr Rowley is now seeking a meeting with Fife Council bosses to discuss how the credit unions in Fife can be supported to develop into more communities stating that in these difficult financial times every person should be able to access the brilliant services credit unions offer.

The Benarty and Lochgelly Credit Union is another success story again with savers and borrowers growing steadily.
