THE villagers of Kelty are being urged to attend the drop-in event which is being held next week to give details about a major proposed development in the village.

An application has been lodged with Fife Council by I H Brown for 900 homes for land to the south of the village.

Planning Convener Gary Hutchison reported to Kelty Community Council's meeting that I&H Brown have organised a drop-in event to give information to the public prior to submitting an application for Planning Permission in principle to Fife Council for a development at the south west end of Kelty (south of Cocklaw Street, east of the M90 and west of Oakfield Street).

The event will be held in Kelty community Centre on Wednesday June 15 from 2pm to 7pm.

The community council wants people to attend the five hour window during which people from Brown's will answer any questions about the application which, if given the green light, will raise the population of Kelty by around 2000 people.

Lochs Councillor Alex Campbell said that he would be in favour of the proposal as long as certain aspects were addressed.

He told the Times: " This is one of the biggest planning applications ever lodged for Kelty and is for an estate which will house between 2000 and 2500 people.

"That would lift the population of Kelty by around 40 per cent and for that to happen certain infrastructure situations would have to be addressed.

"For instance another primary school would have to be provided by the applicant as the current schools are very well populated.

"Also by increasing the population by such a level the Health Centre would have to be replaced and that also needs to be included in any planning agreement.

"It is indeed a very exciting plan for Kelty and I would be in favour of it if we had these infrastructural aspects addressed."

Councillor Campbell urged the people of Kelty to go along to the five hour information session to make their own mind up about the proposal.
