AN investigation is under way after a workman was injured by construction materials in high winds at a Kelty building site this week.

The 42-year-old man suffered injuries to his back and arm in the accident at Persimmon Homes' development at Limepark Crescent on Monday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 12.45pm and used specialist equipment to rescue the man from a ditch dug for the foundations of a new home.

Two fire engines from Lochgelly attended and crews used a long board to get him out.

He was then taken to the Victoria Hospital by ambulance, but was discharged on Monday evening following treatment.

It's believed the strong winds which swept across West Fife as Storm Henry battered Scotland earlier this week were to blame for the accident.

Iain Innes, managing director at Persimmon Homes North Scotland, said: “Due to the recent exceptionally strong high winds we can confirm an incident took place at our development off Limepark Crescent, Kelty, on Monday, February 1.

“An operative was admitted to hospital and released the same day. A full investigation into this matter is being undertaken and our thoughts are with the injured party.”

Police confirmed they had received a report of concern for a man at the construction site around 12.50pm on Monday.

A spokesperson said: “A 42-year-old man was struck by a construction materials and sustained injuries to his back and arm.

“We understand an internal health and safety investigation is now being conducted.”
