THE massive new north eastern housing estate in Kelty is about to be linked with the village Main Street thanks to a planning gain.

The estate is home to over 700 people and is part of the Persimmon Homes expansion but has been cut off from the centre of Kelty since the first houses were built.

A muddy field has provided a barrier to residents from the likes of Seafar Drive. They have been faced with taking on the muddy field or undertaking a 30 minute walk to get into the centre of Kelty.

However, Lochs councillor Alex Campbell, has been spearheading the moves to get a path linking the estate with Bath Street and he is delighted with progress being made on the project.

He said this week: "Money from the Section 75 Community Planning gain has been used to provide this much needed link.

"Especially in winter the field provides a formidable obstacle to people being able to get from the estate to Main Street but the path will soon be complete linking the residents with Bath Street and the central part of the village."

Mr Campbell said that working with Mark Barratt, of the Fife Council transportation department and Persimmon the project was devised which is providing the missing link.

"Mark has been very helpful in progressing this project and it will also provide a cycle link" :added Councillor Campbell.

"The cost of the project is £100,000 which has come from the Section 75 agreement with the developers and it includes full street lighting the length of it.

"The link will be welcomed by the residents of the housing estate which has grown significantly over the past few years."
