WORK on the rehabilitation of the St Ninian's Opencast site is virtually complete, Kelty Community Council heard on Thursday.

And the council members were delighted to hear that they will see a cash spin-off which they can share with community groups.

Councillor Alex Campbell reported that he had met with Hargreaves representatives to discuss progress at the St Ninian's site.

He said that all work was now finished with the exception of some tree planting which will be done in spring 2016.

Mr Campbell also said he had recently attended a meeting of the Coalfield Regeneration Trust Group and he was pleased to inform the community council that Kelty has been awarded £30,000 which to be distributed to the local groups who applied for awards.

He also indicated that work on the skateboard park at Elmwood Terrace has been launched with a turf cutting on October 20 involving the three Lochs councillors and reported that the new classrooms at Kelty Primary School were handed over after the October holiday.

The Lochs councillor also said that the Moray Institute Group was now constituted.

The Group was working hard on business plans and holding regular meetings to keep this well used facility open.

Councillor Campbell congratulated the contractors who have completed the 3G pitch at Central Park for doing a great job.

He completed his report with information regarding the road works that are due to start on the Main Street between Oak Street and Bath Street on November 20. Details can be found on the KCC website www.kelty.org.uk.
