COWDENBEATH Rotary Club's 2015 Christmas Fayre got off to a flying start thanks to the management and patrons of their Wee Jimmie's home.

The club is now based at the High Street hostelry and on Monday the huge charity ball from the front bar was smashed to reveal an amazing total of £381.29.

The bottle was opened by family who run Wee Jimmies, Linda and Gary and Ann Roy, on behalf of the patrons of the popular Cowdenbeath nitespot.

Said Gary: "The big bottle receives donations on a daily basis from the regulars and it really adds up and we wanted to donated it to the rotary club in the run-up to the Christmas Fayre event this Sunday."

The rotary club's Fayre is being held at Kelty Ex-Servicemen's Club on Sunday starting at noon.

It is being organised by the club's junior vice-president Marie Shevas who said; "What a a brilliant start to our Christmas Fayre Fund.

"We cannot thank Linda, Gary, Ann and the patrons of Wee Jimmies enough for this donation.

"We are hoping to have as successful Fayre as last year when the public were so generous.

"There will be a host of stalls and Santa Claus will be there to meet the children and thanks to sponsorship from the Mary Leishman Foundation each youngster will get their photograph taken with Santa."

The club's honorary member, Jim Leishman, organised the sponsorship of the photos and Marie added: "This is a fine gesture by the Foundation and we hope that mums and dads bring their youngsters to meet Santa at Kelty Ex-Servicemen's Club on Sunday."

There will be a host of stalls at the Christmas Fayre and there will be the opportunity to pick up a nice Christmas gift or a stocking filler.

The proceeds will go towards the fund which will help give a special Christmas treat for local young people.
