The future is bright for talented youngsters with Crossgates Primrose Juniors after the club secured a major sponsorship partnership.

The club’s 2003, 2005 and 2007 teams will hope they are on the right road to success after Volkswagen’s Halbeath branch pledged their support with new kit, while polo shirts and tracksuits were provided in time for their trip to the recent Haggerston Castle youth football tournament.

Established in 2007 as Crossgates Juniors after a lack of provision for kids football was identified in the village, the club joined forces with the junior club Primrose two years ago, and are members of the Scottish Youth Football and Fife Soccer Sevens Development associations.

Steven Begg, coach of the 2005s, said, “We’ve gone from having 10 kids to 75 in the space of a year, and it’s really great that we’ve got such a tie-in with David McNeely and Kevin McArthur (Primrose manager and assistant manager).

In the long-term, maybe some of the guys can go on and play for the big team, “We’re committed to maintaining kids football in the village and make sure things are in place to give boys and girls the opportunity to perform, so to have the backing of local companies like this is excellent.” The news is a further boost to Crossgates after the junior side, who finished bottom of the East Region South Division, avoided the threat of closure due to a lack of support on its committee earlier this year.
