CROSSGATES Primary School came so close to qualifying for the Rotary District 1010 Primary School Quiz competiton grand final.

Having won the Cowdenbeath Rotary Club competition by finishing ahead of 11 other schools, the Crossgates team headed for Burntisland on Wednesday to compete in the Area final.

Two teams go from this stage to the finals in Aberdeen in June and Kinross ran out overall winner and there was a dead heat for second place between Canmore PS and Crossgates PS, which went to a tie break. After the tie break, second place went to Canmore PS with Crossgates in third.

Area final organiser, Donald McKinnon said, “It was an amazingly close contest between the tean teams and Canmore and Crossgates were so very close.

“The runners-up teams both scored 102 points and it was a shame that they both could not go through.” The Crossgates team had been impressive winners of the of the Cowdenbeath Rotary Club quiz when Dylan Weatherup, Milly Fox, Jamie Gordon and Jamie Ewart were consistent scorers in each of the 10 rounds of six questions.

They repeated the form at Burtisland and came so close to qualifying for the Area final which will held on 6th June at the Beach Ballroom, in Aberdeen.
