THE Dunfermline and West Fife seat will be another in which Labour will be fighting off a strong SNP challenge.

There are five candidates in total fighting the seat which includes the Moss-side area of Cowdenbeath, Hill of Beath and Crossgates, and is being defended by Labour candidate Thomas Docherty.

Greens candidate Lewis Campbell is only 18 years-old but is set to go toe-to-toe with political veterans to win the favour of his constituency, all while juggling his second-year studies at university. But despite being the youngest parliamentary candidate known of in the UK, Lewis already has a lot of experience on the political front.

Douglas Chapman, the SNP candidate has lived in Dunfermline for over 23 years. “My wife works in a primary school in Cowdenbeath and both my children went to school in Dunfermline. This is our home and I am very proud of the area. It would be a huge honour to represent this wee bit of Scotland at Westminster”,” he said..

Gillian Cole-Hamilton, is the Lib Dems candidate, who said, “As a Liberal Democrat, I’m proud of my party’s record in Government over the past five years. We took the selfless decision to put country before party and join a coalition with our political adversaries at a time when Britain needed stable government in the teeth of the worst recession in living memory”.

Thomas Docherty was elected as the Member of Parliament for Dunfermline and West Fife in the May 2010 General Election with a 5470 majority. Thomas lives in Dunfermline with his wife Katie and young children.

“It’s been my honour and privilege to serve as our Member of Parliament for the past five years. In that time I have dealt with over 7500 cases and individual enquiries, helping thousands of local people who have found themselves in difficulty,” he Local man James Reekie was selected by the Scottish Conservatives to stand in the Dunfermline and West Fife Constituency. James, a financial services worker who lives in the constituency, was selected before the New Year by local party members.

“It’s a privilege to be selected once again to stand for the area I grew up in but this time for the UK Parliament. I’ve campaigned on many issues in Dunfermline and West Fife over the last five years and I’m looking forward to the General Election campaign.” Over the next three issues we will be giving the candidates the chance to air their views on what the big talking points are in the constituency.
