THE Crossgates team was the one to catch at last Wednesday’s Cowdenbeath Rotary Club Primary School Quiz competition.

A total of 12 schools took part coming from all parts of the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area and the competition was fierce but the Crossgates Primary team of (left to right) Dylan Weatherup, Milly Fox, Jamie Gordon and Jamie Ewart were consistent scorers in each of the 10 rounds of six questions.

The subjects covered ranged from geography to history and science and all 12 teams surprised quizmaster Neil Westgarth with their knowledge.

He said, “Some of the questions were pretty difficult but the youngsters were very knowledgable and it was brilliant to see how well they all did.

“Crossgates scored heavily in each round and were deserved winners.” Going into the last two rounds the Crossgates led Lumphinnans by five points and Kelty and Lochgelly South by six, but the village school youngsters held their nerve and scored 51 points with Lumphinnans finishing second on 46 and Foulford coming up on the rails to take third spot on 45.

The Crossgates team will now go forward to represent the Cowdenbeath Area at the Fife finals on Wednesday 29th April at Burntisland Primary School.
