CROSSGATES PRIMROSE could have just nine matches left to play in its history unless it recruits new committee members.

The Times revealed last week that the junior club’s future was in the balance after the team’s manager, David McNeely, said that he and assistant, Kevin McArthur, were running the club’s operations both on and off the field.

However, after last week’s appeal in the Times and its sister paper the Dunfermline Press, there has been interest from a couple of people in helping out.

Although the club’s finances are in decent shape, a lack of support in carrying out behind the scenes work would see the management team “walk away” at the end of the season if they fail in their bid to find extra assistance.

Mr McNeely added that this move would spell the end for the Humbug Park club, who were reformed in 1983 after the original club - founded in 1926 - ceased to exist in 1960.

They are currently bottom of the South Division table having collected just seven points from their 18 matches so far this season after Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Blackburn United and have eight fixtures left to play this season. Dave McNeely is desperate to avoid Primrose, whose best known player is former Scotland and Rangers legend Jim Baxter, following Steelend Victoria and Ballingry Rovers in disappearing from the Fife junior football scene and he said, “Kevin and I spoke at length about this during last week and we feel that we are not able to give 100 per cent to the football side of things. If we don’t get folk in at the end of the season then the club won’t be here. That’s where we’re at.

“We just need time from people. We’re not asking for money because financially we’re doing ok, but it’s just Kevin and I on the committee and I’m not continuing to put myself through it. “It’s not good for our health and even if someone was to come in on the football side, I’d take a step back to try and keep the club afloat.” But with some interest shown this could be the start of a new beginning for the Primrose but more people would be welcomed aboard.
