POLICE are launching a fresh appeal to find the sneaky culprits who managed to hide £27,000 worth of cannabis plants in plain sight on a farm near Crossgates.

Around 53 fully-grown cannabis plants, some over eight feet tall, were found growing out in the open air on the land near Mains of Beath Farm, having apparently gone unnoticed for some time.

Officers from Cowdenbeath were bemused when they were called out in September by a local farmer who had made the unusual discovery on part of his land, and soon realised that the plants had been cultivated and cared for over a period of time.

The potential yield of the plants was around £27,000, but despite enquiries police have been unable to trace the green-fingered owners who had craftily grown the plants on the farmland.

Community Investigation Unit Sergeant, Kenny Bow, made a fresh appeal, stating, “It is extremely unusual to find cannabis plants growing outdoors, mainly due to our climate, but someone has given it a good go on this occasion and it may be that their endeavours have not gone unnoticed, so I would ask that any person who may have seen any unusual activity in the area of Old Netherbeath Road, Cowdenbeath, leading to Mains of Beath Farm, to contact local police where information will be treated confidentially.”
