ORGANISERS of the Coalfields Community Futures programme in Crossgates and Mossgreen are keen to hear from local young people.

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust is rolling out its Coalfields Community Futures programme to the two villages, helping local people develop a 5-year community action plan, and providing a £20,000 participatory budget to get priority projects off the ground.

A team of volunteers is busy distributing survey forms to local households, and conducting interviews with community groups and businesses to find out how they would like to see the area develop.

They started collecting the survey forms from Thursday (October 9th), but the Steering Group is worried the voice of young people might not be heard.

Robert Arnott, a member of the Steering Group (pictured) said, “The local Steering Group is keen to hear opinions and ideas from young people in Crossgates and Mossgreen so look out for activities for this age group in the area and across local schools. What they say matters!

“We would also ask parents to encourage young people to take part and help them share their voice. Like us on Facebook to keep up to date with What’s On for Crossgates and Mossgreen”.

Nicky Wilson Scottish Trustee of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust said, “We really appreciate the thoroughness of the Crossgates and Mossend Steering Group in ensuring that everyone has their say on the area’s future.

“There are not many established youth groups in the area so they are taking special steps to ensure that the voice of local young people is heard.”
