BOCCIA player Kieran Steer, from Crossgates, continues to turn in quality performances on the big occasion.

Kieran’s most recent international event was the BisFed World Open in Povoa, in Portugal, in June. Partnering Stephen McGuire and Evie Edwards, he won a silver medal for Team GB, just missing out on a gold medal in a thrilling match against Hungary. The final match score was 3 to 2 demonstrating clearly how close Kieran and his team mates were to winning a gold medal. Kieran was satisfied with his overall play but being the determined competitor he is, he strives for continuous improvement. In the BC4 singles competition Kieran finished 14th overall.

The young Disability Sport Fife player is enjoying a remarkable year and it is now fingers crossed in the run-up to the selection announcement for the Boccia World Championships in Beijing in September. Yet again Kieran was supported by mum Lorraine, who has been with him at every step of the way as he has progressed from the novice sportsman who attended the Disability Sport Fife Junior Sports Festival while a pupil at Beath High School, to gaining selection for the GB squad preparing for Rio in 2016. Kieran is coached by Team GB Performance Coach, Claire Morrison from Dalgety Bay.
